Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August 2007 at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire
The Festival of History returns again this August, for a whole weekend of fun and spectacular sights! If you haven't been before, we highly recommend this event with something for the whole family to enjoy and dramatic displays every year.
The replica Lullingstone Mosaic
There's so much more to see at with an action-packed programme, with over 50 shows taking place each day. One of our favourites, the World War I airshow, is returning again this year - don't miss it!
Last year YAC members, together with the festival visitors, enjoyed building a replica of the Lullingstone mosaic. Lots of glue and sticky fingers over the course of the weekend brought a brilliant result as you can see from our photos (right).
And we had loads of fun in the process of course!
This year YAC is going goulish... Do you dare to visit our graveyard?!?
* Explore our graveyard and become a history detective
* Have a go at following our trail
* Discover the meanings behind symbols on gravetsones
* Learn about family trees and family history research
To explore the graveyard and meet some of the people from YAC HQ, just come along to the YAC marquee in the Children's area - you'll find it on the Festival map when you arrive. We can't wait to meet you!
As well as the graveyard trail, there are loads of other things going on in the Children's Area too:
* practice making a fool of yourself in the jesting workshops!
* enjoy a puppet show
* watch grisly medical demonstrations!
* see and join in some Morris dancing
* try out life as a Roman soldier with drill practice
* listen to medieval Rock 'n' Roll!
* help build our medieval castle
* AND much more!!
That all sounds great, but what else is going on at the Festival this year?
New this year - experience the sites and sounds of life in the trenches and hear tales of the triumphs and tragedies of the men who worked there, as you explore the 100ft long re-created World War I trench being specially created for the Festival of History. An airshow adds to the Great War experience, with authentic World War I planes performing perilous manoeuvres in the skies above.
With over 2,000 years of history, from the Roman Empire to the Swinging Sixties this is an action-packed blockbuster event with battle spectaculars, celebrity lectures, hand-on activities, jousts, falconry, music and dance to name just a few!
The Festival of History is supported by Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.
