   Under the laws of Treasure Trove in Scotland, all finds of archaeological or historical interest or importance are the property of the Crown.

   Any such finds which are claimed by the Crown are held in the public domain by Scottish museums for the benefit of the nation.

Yes, I suppose non-Brits would not know how the UK operates. England and Wales tend to have one set of laws and Scotland another. This is particularly true as regards treasure trove. If you look in our articles (left) you will see this: English Law on Treasure Trove.
